Willow Dziedzic MP has today announced their candidacy in the upcoming Prime Ministerial election, citing a constitutional loophole that allows for their entry into the race.

The announcement comes just days after Dziedzic filed a court case seeking clarification on the definition of a “Member of Parliament”, a move that drew significant attention during the election period.

A late entry into the race

Dziedzic stated that, as a sitting Member of Parliament, they are eligible for candidacy under the Constitution and have exercised that right to enter the election.

They pointed to the wording of Article II, which states that “Members of Parliament are eligible for candidacy”, arguing that this does not restrict when a candidate may declare their intention to run.

As a result, Dziedzic has positioned their candidacy as a valid late entry under existing constitutional rules.
